Car is Golf mk5 1.9 TDI 2007 Air con blows hot air and does not turn on I've checked all my fuses are fine Checked under the hood and with air-con on (eco off), the fans at the front do not engage after 30secs-1min, they don't start at all at any point
Went to have a look to see i could find the switch next to the alternator. When I un-clipped it there seems to be a green liquid inside where the terminals are, thought maybe that is interfering with the connection so gave it a blast of contact cleaner. It started bubbling, I cleaned it out as best i could with a wipe and flat screwdriver!
The most common fault is the pressure switch it goes porous - this is situated on the LHS when looking into the engine bay. Other items could be defective but when it's re-gassed get them to add the dye to allow leak detection This link shows the price of other items in the system including the switch!
The most common causes of Your Volkswagen Golf Mk5 air conditioning not working are, blown fuses or relays, refrigerant leak or a bad AC compressor.
The heating acts normally for the first 30 minutes then starts to cool down to the point where i have to whack the heating up to 28c to get any heat, then it comes through hot. Think nothing, nothing HOT. Couple of points. - The coolant temperature reaches and remains at 90c after approximately 10 minutes of driving.
After about 20 minutes of driving, the vents begin blowing warmer air—above temperature of the air outside. This happens with the AC off, but the temperature dial set at the lowest "cool" setting (I have the manual temperature control). Very noticeable at night, when the exterior temp is much lower.
